DRIVING TECHNIQUES

--Rocket Start--
Press and hold the Accelerator at just the right time during the countdown to rev up your engine and give yourself a burst of speed off the starting line.

--Drifting--
Drifting lets you take sharp corners without slowing down. To drift, press the brake while accelerating when turning to slide sideways. Also, while drifting, you can change your direction.

--Mini-Turbo--
After drifting for a bit, sparks will fly from your tires. Release the brake when blue flames start shooting out to get a boost of speed, also called a Mini-Turbo. (Mini-Turbos are not available when you set 'auto-drift' on the Wii Wheel options)

--Super Mini-Turbo--
Continue to drift after the blue flames appear, and they will turn orange. Release the brake at this point to activate a bigger boost of speed, also called a Super Mini-Turbo. (Super Mini-Turbos are not available when you set 'auto-drift' on the Wii Wheel options)

--Trick--
Press a directional button on controllers or shake the Wii Wheel right as you leave a platform to perform a trick in the air. Successful tricks give you a short speed boost when you land.

--Wheelie--
Press a directional button UP on controllers or tilt the Wii Wheel UP when riding a bike to perform a wheelie and get a speed boost. Be careful, though, because it's more difficult to turn when doing a wheelie, and if another vehicle hits you during your wheelie, you'll slow down and lose control. To exit a wheelie, simply press down on the direction pad or tilt the Wii Wheel back down.

--Avoiding a POW Block Spin-Out--
Press a directional button on controllers or shake the Wii Wheel right as the POW Block flattens to perform a trick to avoid the spin-out it causes. If successful, a blue pulse should appear below your vehicle to shield you from the tremor.

ONLINE

CAN IT BE PLAYED ONLINE?
Yes.

HOW CAN I CONNECT ONLINE?
To get online in Mario Kart, you would of course, have to get your wii connected to the internet. Below is a tutorial on how to do this:

In the main menu, click on the bottom left icon that says "wii" (hovering it will say "Wii Options"). Then you want to go to "Wii Settings", click on the right arrow to the next page and click on "Internet". You then want to click on "Connection Settings" and select any of the three shown. Here select "Wireless Connection" or "Wired Connection".

If you select "Wireless Connection":
I assume by selecting this option, you already have access (along with its password or key) to your own wireless connection. After clicking on this you want to "Search For An Access Point". What happens after this varies but you may get a selection of various access points along with yours or just your own. Of course you'd want to choose yours and then input the password or key. After doing so you may select the type of security you want on this connection and then click "OK". It will then test the connection and if all goes well you are done!

If you select "Wired Connection":
I assume by selecting this option, you already have an Ethernet cable or a wii LAN adapter connected and so after clicking on this, it should say "Initiating Connection Test" on the screen. Click on "Ok" and it will test out the connection and you're done!

OK, MY WII IS CONNECTED, HOW DO I ADD FRIEND CODES AND SUCH?
You are given two friends codes: one on the wii in the Home Menu and one from >Mario Kart Wii. You can only play with others in the Community if you register their Friend Code within the game and vice versa.

Navigating the Nintendo WFC & Finding your Friend Code:

Registering a Mario Kart Friend:
Fairly simple, in the Friend Roster Menu, there is an option to "ENTER FRIEND CODE". You would of course need to know the code of the person you want to add.

Registering A Wii Friend in the Home Menu
To register any Wii friends, you will need their Wii Number first. Before you can send messages to them or see them online in your games, they will need to add your Wii Number to their address book as well.

NOTE: To register a Wii Friend your Wii must be connected to the internet with a broadband internet connection.

After selecting Register from the Address Book, enter the following information by moving the cursor over the options and pressing the A button.

1. Select the Wii option to register another Wii console.

2. Enter a nickname for your friend.

3. Enter the Wii Number for that console.

4. To attach a Mii, select the Mii icon, then select the Mii you would like to use.

5. Select OK to confirm the information and register your Wii Friend.

Finding your Wii Number in the Home Menu

The Wii Number is a 16-digit number assigned to each Wii console. By exchaning Wii Numbers with other Wii users, you can register your Wii system to a Wii Friend.

1. Open your address book to page 1.

2. Move the cursor over the left scroll button and press the A button to view your Console's Wii Number.
